B I O G R A P H Y

Since 2009, Thomas had served as a teacher in the Boston area - maintaining a private studio of adult pre-professionals in Cambridge, MA, a voice studio at the Brookline Music School, and teaching private voice, musical coachings, and musical theater seminars at the Franklin School for the Performing Arts. He was a full time instructor at the Boston Conservatory Vocal/Choral Intensive for two summers, and spent a semester as a guest instructor there in applied musical theater voice for undergraduate and graduate students in 2016. In August 2017, he went on a kind of “unofficial sabbatical” in Luxembourg as his husband completes his PhD there. In Luxembourg, Thomas provides in-home voice lessons and serves as an vocal coach/assistant conductor to the University Choir at the University of Luxembourg while studying French, German and Luxembourgish languages.

A lyric baritone, he has performed a wide variety of repertoire, from jazz to musical theater to opera and oratorio. In the Boston area, he was a regular and soloist with the Boston Choral Ensemble, with notable performances in Thomas Tallis' Spem in alium at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross as a part of the Boston Early Music Festival. Other engagements included singing the Wolf in Barab's LIttle Red Riding Hood and Davie's Three LIttle Pigs with Franklin Performing Arts company, L'elisir d'amore with Longy School of Music, and Odyssey Opera's concert production of Wagner's grand opera Rienzi at Jordan Hall. In solo recital, Thomas has given compelling performances of Ravel's Don Quichotte à Dulcinée and 5 Chansons populaires grecque, Finzi's 5 Shakespeare Songs, Korngold's Einfache Lieder, and Bach's rarely performed cantata, Amore traditore, in addition to numerous art songs and arias. His opera credits at Boston Conservatory include Haly (L'Italiana in Algeri), the Minister of the Sanctuary (Iphigenie en Tauride), Keeper of the Madhouse (Rake's Progress) and various chorus roles.

 

Thomas is a graduate of The Boston Conservatory with a B.M. in Vocal Performance, summa cum laude, member of Pi Kappa Lambda. He also holds his M.M. in Vocal Pedagogy Performance from The Boston Conservatory, where he was a student of and teaching assistant to Kevin Wilson, director of Graduate Vocal Pedagogy.
